Canada is ready for The Leap: Rally in Vancouver

At its 27th National Convention in Vancouver, CUPE will rally with environmental, indigenous, labour and social justice organizations, calling for fundamental change in the wake of the federal election.

In partnership with leapmanifesto.org, CUPE National President Paul Moist will join author and activist Naomi Klein and others to talk about a Canada based on caring for each other and the planet.

The rally will be held Thursday, November 5, at 12 noon at the Jack Poole Plaza in Vancouver/Coast Salish Territories.

CUPE National has signed on to the Leap Manifesto, which outlines the positive, bold vision that we don’t need to choose between protecting the environment and having a strong economy. Members and allies across the country are encouraged to sign the Manifesto as well.

Moist says that especially in the wake of the federal election, it is critical that we continue to send a message that it is possible for Canada to fight against climate change in a way that makes the country and our communities better. The Leap Manifesto identifies a path that includes delivering meaningful justice to Indigenous peoples, creating more and better jobs, restoring and expanding our social safety net, reducing economic and racial inequalities, and welcoming migrants and refugees.

This rally will be a chance to listen to some great music and inspirational words. Vancouver’s fantastic food carts will be invited. Members and allies across the country will be invited to join in a national Thunderclap action just before the rally begins.

Check back for rally updates on the Facebook event page and the CUPE National Convention site.
