BURNABY- Across the province CUPE locals are using new campaign material to raise awareness of workplace hazards. In October 2014 CUPE BC relaunched the Spot the Hazard campaign to assist locals in preventing workplace injuries.
The campaign gives local health and safety committees an additional tool. The campaign is supported by:
- posters that encourage members to report concerns to management and the union
- pocket-sized “know your rights” folding cards with information about workplace hazards and rights
- static cling stickers for use by the union to mark potential workplace hazards
Locals can order materials through CUPE BC.
The stickers can be an important tool in cases where management does not address concerns raised by the union about potential hazards. Placing the stickers at the site of a potential hazard that management has failed to address can raise awareness, place pressure on management to address union concerns, and to alert members to possible hazards in their workplace.
Campaign material comes with suggestions for how to effectively use the campaign.
CUPE locals are encouraged to share pictures and stories about how they are using the campaign. See the photo gallery for the campaign here.
