City of Nanaimo workers ratify three-year deal

NANAIMO— CUPE municipal workers and the City of Nanaimo have ratified a new collective agreement.

750 members of CUPE 401 have approved a new deal that includes a two per cent wage increase in each of the three years, as well as significant improvements to extended health care coverage and improvements to the language.

CUPE 401 vice-president Laurence Amy says that the local “is pleased with the outcome from this round of bargaining. This is a fair deal for our members and we look forward to continuing to provide the City of Nanaimo with quality public services.”

The new contract runs until Dec. 31, 2013.

CUPE 401 represents more than 1,800 workers in cities and towns including the city and Regional District of Nanaimo, the cities of Campbell River and Parksville, towns of Ladysmith and Qualicum Beach, the municipality of Lantzville, North Cedar Improvement District, the Vancouver Island Regional Library System and the Parksville Community Centre Society.
