The members of our diverse, vibrant and growing Asian Canadian community across the country are taking pride in sharing their rich cultural heritage this month.
Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity to acknowledge the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and to promote the many achievements and contributions they have made to our union and in communities across the country.
“In celebrating Asian Heritage and taking part in the festivities across the country CUPE members will learn more about the Asian society, which is a beautiful fabric of different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes and different dreams. By celebrating Asian Heritage Month, CUPE hopes to raise awareness and build solidarity among our members to strengthen our collective fight for social and economic justice,” said CUPE president Paul Moist.
“While CUPE takes pride in celebrating Asian Heritage Month, we are very concerned that this celebration is diminished by the Conservative Government’s regressive immigration policies and their positions on refugees and temporary foreign workers. This highlights the critical need to work together to ensure that we have governments which adopt policies which are inclusive and which support multiculturalism in a meaningful and respectful way,” Moist added.
