Human Rights – CUPE activists are ‘making it happen’

RICHMOND—Activists will celebrate key victories while strategizing for continuing challenges at CUPE BC’s human rights conference (November 18-20, 2010, Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel, Richmond).

Themed “Human Rights - Making it Happen”, the conference will for the first time bring all four of CUPE BC’s equity-seeking groups—workers of colour, aboriginal workers, workers with disabilities and pink triangle workers—under one umbrella to tackle key equality and human rights issues facing workers today, both on the job and in society at large.

The keynote speaker will be BC Human Rights Coalition chair Susan O’Donnell.

The event will begin with a pre-conference Aboriginal Gathering, starting at 11 a.m. and adjourning at 5 p.m., open to all First Nations, Metis and Inuit delegates. Registration for the conference will begin at 3 p.m. on November 18, with the opening session at 7 p.m. followed by a reception.

The deadline to register for the conference and the hotel is October 18.
