VICTORIA—An upbeat crowd gathered to rally and walk in support of community social services in Victoria on March 28. The event, which saw participation from about 250 people, included a broad cross-section of people with disabilities, workers, and community social services activists.
CUPE 1936’s Sheryl Burns and Michael Lanier say that the commitment of those present was not hampered by the cold and rainy weather, which prompted organizers to trim the length of the walk from 5 km to 2 km.
The event marks the end of Community Social Services Awareness month, in which over 30 municipal councils have passed declarations or taken other actions to mark the month. More information can be found at www.communitysocialservicesmatter.ca
