Job action in community health

VANCOUVER–The Community Bargaining Association (CBA) reviewed the employer's latest offer and although a wage increase is included in the offer, it is tied securely to a corresponding "offset" (cost savings) from the collective agreement.  The offset is matched by the employer to provide the wage increase.  There is no guarantee built into the proposal that the wage increase will not be eroded in the future by increases to the cost of the provisions where the 'savings' were proposed.

SFU refuses to engage at contract talks

RICHMOND—CUPE came to the table with a mediator and determination to reach a collective agreement - they left empty handed.  A full weekend of mediated bargaining with Vince Ready never got past the university’s fixation with its own pension problems, according to CUPE Local 3338 president Lynne Fowler.

Final CUPE local at UVic signs collective agreement

VICTORIA — CUPE Local 4163 has reached a tentative collective agreement with the University of Victoria. The deal is a no-concessions, four-year agreement with 0-0-2-2% wage increases. The agreement is retroactive to 2010 and includes no wage increases for the first two years under the provincial government's Net Zero Mandate. That mandate stipulated that public sector workers could get no wage increases for 2010 and 2011.

All-out strike set at SFU

BURNABY – Striking CUPE Local 3338 support workers have scheduled an all-out, all-campus withdrawal of services for Wednesday, Nov. 7.  The union says picket lines will go up at the Burnaby Mountain, Surrey and downtown Vancouver campuses.

SFU strikers get support for escalating job action

BURNABY–Striking support workers were joined on the picket line by CUPE BC president Barry O’Neill today. O’Neill pledged the continued support of the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ 80,000 members in BC as the strikers announced plans to remain on the picket line tomorrow. O’Neill also met with student supporters and striking picketers from the TSSU teaching assistants’ union.
