UVic Sessional Workers Ratify Two-Year Deal

VICTORIA—CUPE sessional instructors at the University of Victoria have ratified a new two-year collective agreement. The employer is expected to ratify the deal by the end of the month. 

The contract runs from May 1, 2012 - April 30, 2014 and includes wage increases of 2 percent in the first year and 1.38 percent in the second.

CUPE Local 4163 (component 3) represents more than 400 sessionals and music performance instructors at UVic and is the final local to ratify a new collective agreement in the current UVic round of bargaining.

Community Social Services to resume strike action at end of January

Actions will highlight the scope and diversity of sector services

VANCOUVER - The Community Social Services Bargaining Association is planning a strategic escalation of job action beginning later in January that will highlight the diversity and scope of CSS services.

VANCOUVER—CUPE 1004 members have ratified a new collective agreement in Vancouver.

Vancouver outside workers and the City of Vancouver have a new four-year deal which is retroactive to January 1, 2012 and expires December 31, 2015.

The new agreement includes modest wage increases of 1.25 percent, 1.75 percent, 1.75 percent and 2 percent in each year of the agreement. The agreement also includes significant improvements to job promotions and job security as well as new processes for service improvements.

Tentative deal reached for Community Health members

VANCOUVER—The multi-union Community Bargaining Association (CBA) has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Health Employers’ Association of BC (HEABC).

The two-year proposed agreement covers over 14,000 workers in community health, and comes after one year of difficult negotiations. The agreement achieves our members' key priorities including an across the board wage increase while protecting health and welfare benefits. Highlights include:

•    3% wage increase for all employees (2% upon ratification and 1% April 1st)

CUPE 825 ratifies four-year collective agreement

PORT MOODY—The City of Port Moody and members of CUPE 825, municipal and library workers, have ratified a four-year collective agreement. CUPE 825 ratified the agreement on Wednesday, January 9 and the City ratified on Tuesday, December 18.

“The collaborative relationship that has been developed between the union and employer in past years helped both parties reach a fair and equitable settlement for all stakeholders,” said CUPE 825 president Raman Braich.

New Contract at New Caledonia

PRINCE GEORGE - Cupe Local 4951 support workers and the College of New Caledonia have reached a tentative four-year collective agreement. The no-concessions deal is in line with the provincial BC colleges framework worked out between CUPE and the BC Post Secondary Employers’ Association (on behalf of the provincial government). 

The agreement calls for no wage increases in the first two years, in keeping with the province’s Net Zero Mandate for 2010- 2011.
