Richmond inside workers reach tentative agreement

RICHMOND—CUPE Local 718 and the City of Richmond have reached a new tentative agreement.

“We are pleased to have concluded negotiations and to have reached a fair and reasonable deal for our members,” said CUPE 718 president Robert Gilchrist. “However, this was a particularly difficult round of negotiations, one which has unfortunately strained the relationship between the two parties. This contract is the best we could achieve at this time and moving forward it will provide some security and protections for our members.”

National President visits locked-out Quilchena Golf & Country Club workers

RICHMOND—CUPE National President, Paul Moist, and CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer, Mark Hancock joined locked-out members on the picket line at Quilchena Golf & Country Club yesterday (Feb.28).

The 19 CUPE Local 4964 members have been locked-out for more than three weeks now and despite numerous invitations by the union to return to the bargaining table management refuses to end the lockout.

Tentative deal reached at VCC

VANCOUVER—CUPE Local 4627 and Vancouver Community College have finally reached a tentative new collective agreement after 15 months of bargaining. The tentative contract reached this afternoon is for a four-year no-concessions deal with a 4% wage increase (1-1-1-1%) over the final two years. (There were no wage increases for the first two years under the provincial government’s Net Zero Mandate).  The agreement must still be ratified by CUPE members and by the College Board. A union ratification vote is scheduled for March 12.

Community Health collective agreement ratified

VANCOUVER—Workers in Community Health have voted 86 percent in favour of a two-year contract that provides an across the board wage increase, and improved workplace and scheduling provisions.

The agreement comes after one year of difficult negotiations with the Health Employers' Association of BC (HEABC). Ratification votes were held across the province over the past four weeks.

RICHMOND – Locked out CUPE 4964 greenskeeper Mike Chysyk decided at the last minute to change into his steel-toed safety boots to join his co-workers on the picket line today. It’s a good thing he did. Witnesses at the front gate of the Quilchena Golf and Country Club in Richmond say Chysyk’s foot was run over as he tried to get out of the way of the club general manager’s car.

Lockout at Quilchena Golf and Country Club

RICHMOND—This morning at 7:15 a.m., management at Quilchena Golf and Country Club locked out its employees. The lockout affects 19 CUPE 4964 members who maintain and care for the grounds at the club and comes after only nine days of combined mediation and bargaining.

Tentative agreement reached for health science professionals

VANCOUVER - After almost a year of bargaining for a new contract, the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) has reached a tentative agreement for nearly 17,000 health science professionals working in hospitals and communities across British Columbia.

“In a very difficult bargaining climate we have reached a tentative agreement which reflects the important work CUPE health care professional do. This agreement will allow members to continue to provide quality health care services to British Columbians,” said CUPE bargaining committee member Chris Losito.

SFU Guilty of Bad Faith Bargaining

VANCOUVER – The BC Labour Relations Board has ruled that Simon Fraser University is guilty of bad faith bargaining against its 1,000 CUPE support workers.  The decision that SFU breached the BC Labour Code was handed down yesterday afternoon.

The members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3338 have been without a contract for close to three years. SFU is the only university in the province that has not negotiated in good faith to a new collective agreement with its CUPE support workers.
