NORTH VANCOUVER – Sixteen CUPE 389 members who work at the North Shore Winter Club (NSWC) were locked out Friday morning by the club’s management.

Quilchena lockout reaches day ninety

RICHMOND—Yesterday, Wednesday May 1, marks day ninety of the lockout at Quilchena Golf and Country Club.  The groundskeepers (who are represented by CUPE 4964) were locked out by the club’s management February 4 after only nine days of negotiations.

CUPE employees reject final offer from North Shore Winter Club

NORTH VANCOUVER–CUPE 389 employees at the North Shore Winter Club (NSWC) voted Friday (April 26) overwhelmingly to reject the final offer presented by management at the club.

 “CUPE 389 members are a vital part of ensuring the safety and well-being of those using the facilities at the North Shore Winter Club. CUPE employees take great pride in the work they do, and are frustrated that management isn’t willing to negotiate a fair and reasonable contract,” says Cindy McQueen, CUPE 389 president.

‘Zero’ progress stalls K-12 talks

VANCOUVER – Provincial K-12 bargaining talks have broken down.  CUPE reports reaching “impasse” with the BC Public School Employers’ Association yesterday. 

CUPE BC K-12 coordinator Bill Pegler called Wednesday’s meeting “very disappointing.”  After giving BCPSEA every opportunity to come up with a savings plan, says Pegler, “the CUPE BC Presidents’ Council Bargaining Subcommittee was expecting a proposal that would give the workers who keep our schools clean, safe and inclusive a settlement in line with the rest of BC’s recent public-sector contracts.”

Simon Fraser University guilty verdict sticks

BURNABY - The BC Labour Relations Board has rejected an SFU bid to overturn a ruling that it is bargaining in bad faith with its 1,000 CUPE Local 3338 employees. The decision was announced on Monday.

The original unfair labour practices judgment was handed down by the LRB back in January. The decision was based on SFU’s insistence on tying changes to the multi-party SFU pension plan to collective bargaining with CUPE.

Tentative deal reached at the Vancouver Art Gallery

VANCOUVER—The Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) and the CUPE members who work there have reached a tentative agreement.

“We are pleased to announce that we have concluded negotiations and have achieved a fair and reasonable agreement for the dedicated staff at the VAG,” says CUPE 15 president Paul Faoro. “While this round of negotiations was difficult we believe we were able to achieve positive gains which will benefit our members and the VAG moving forward.”

Richmond Library Workers ratify new collective agreement

RICHMOND— Members of CUPE Local 3966, Richmond library workers, and the Richmond Public Library have ratified a new collective agreement.

“Our bargaining committee is very pleased to have reached a fair agreement which both parties view as positive for our library. This agreement provides improvements for our members but will also positively impact our community and those who depend on the important services CUPE 3966 members provide,” says Barbara Wilson, CUPE 3966 president.

CUPE 391 ratifies new collective agreement

VANCOUVER—CUPE 391 members have ratified a new four-year collective agreement with the Vancouver Public Library Board.

CUPE 391 voted overwhelmingly in favour of the new agreement this past Sunday (March 3) while the library board met Tuesday night (March 5) and ratified the agreement.

Health science professionals ratify collective agreement

VANCOUVER—Health science professionals have voted 83 percent in favour of accepting a new contract that includes wage increases totaling three percent, and protects the wages of hospital pharmacists who were threatened with wage rollbacks of up to 14 percent. The agreement was reached between the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) and Health Employers’ Association of BC (HEABC.)

The agreement includes wage increases totaling three percent, and makes permanent a market adjustment of between 9 and 14 percent for pharmacists.
