CUPE health science workers reach tentative agreement with employers’ association

BURNABY - The bargaining association representing the various health science unions has reached a tentative agreement with the Health Employers’ Association of BC (HEABC).

CUPE’s bargaining committee is reviewing the agreement before making a recommendation to members affected by the tentative contract.

The Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association is the bargaining agent of unionized health professional workers in BC. Its members will vote on the tentative agreement in December.

CUPE represents 500 health science professionals in BC.

City of Prince George pushing for strike: CUPE

PRINCE GEORGE – After nearly a year of contract negotiations there is still no collective agreement in place for city workers and CUPE 399 president Gary Campbell says it looks like the City is now trying to push CUPE members into a strike.

More CUPE education workers vote to ratify agreements with BC school districts

BURNABY- Five CUPE BC K-12 Presidents’ Council Locals have now ratified agreements with BC school districts: Local 379 with SD 41 (Burnaby), Local 476 with SD 47 (Powell River), Local 1260 with SD 35 (Langley), Local 2098 with SD 51 (Boundary), and Local 4991 with SD 57 (Prince George).

CUPE Local 379 education workers in Burnaby were the latest to vote to ratify an agreement over the long weekend.

CUPE education workers in Powell River ratify collective agreement

POWELL RIVER—Education worker members of CUPE Local 476 have voted to ratify a collective agreement with School District 47 (Powell River). The 153 members include education assistants, clerical staff, trades, custodians, and bus drivers.

Local K-12 bargaining shows how provincial budget cuts impact students—CUPE BC

BURNABY—As CUPE’s K-12 Locals in BC begin concluding collective bargaining with school districts, the need for increased funding for public education from the BC Liberal government is becoming even clearer, CUPE BC President Mark Hancock said today.

“Tight budgets at the school district level point to a need for funding adjustments at the provincial level,” said Hancock. “While CUPE Locals continue to work with school boards to make sure learning opportunities for all students are protected, the system is hundreds of millions of dollars behind where it was ten years ago.”

BC Government obliged to fund agreement with education workers – CUPE

BURNABY-CUPE Locals have begun reaching settlements with BC school boards. CUPE Local 476 in Powell River and Local 1260 in Langley concluded bargaining late last week.

In the coming weeks of bargaining, CUPE Locals hope to work with school boards to ensure services for all BC students are not adversely affected, and stand together with trustees in calling on the provincial government to invest in public education.

North Shore Winter Club management should listen to members, return to bargaining—CUPE BC

NORTH VANCOUVER—Locked out North Shore Winter Club (NSWC) employees are gearing up for an evening of action as the NSWC prepares to host its Annual General Meeting tonight.

“Our message to board members, managers and club members is that it’s time to put an end to this senseless lockout which has gone on for almost five months now,” said CUPE National Representative John Strohmaier. “CUPE employees are eager to get back to work, however managers and board members don’t seem interested in ending this lockout.”

Tentative deal reached for CUPE’s public school education workers

RICHMOND, BC—The Canadian Union of Public Employees has reached a tentative Provincial Framework Agreement with the BC Public Schools Employers’ Association (BCPSEA). The Framework Agreement was unanimously endorsed by the CUPE BC K-12 Provincial Bargaining Sub-Committee and will be recommended to the CUPE BC K-12 Presidents’ Council for endorsement.

Each CUPE union local will then take this provincial agreement to their respective tables with school districts to conclude collective bargaining.

Government must drop concession demands or face strike

BURNABY—Bargaining dates set for next week between CUPE’s K-12 bargaining committee and the provincial government are crucial to achieving a fair and reasonable contract settlement, but if the BC Liberal government doesn’t drop its demands for contract concessions, CUPE members will have no choice but to stage a full-scale province-wide strike, CUPE BC President Mark Hancock said today.

CUPE secures additional bargaining dates but government offers are net loss for education workers

VANCOUVER—CUPE’s talks with the BC Public Schools Employers’ Association will continue on September 16, but a lack of progress on a reasonable wage increase for education workers in BC’s K-12 system threatens to shut down the public school system.

“We don’t have endless patience. Our members have been without a wage adjustment for four years. We are seeking an extremely modest raise with no concessions, but the government won’t even offer that,” said CUPE spokesperson Bill Pegler.
