QUALICUM BEACH – On the verge of ending its lockout of municipal workers, Qualicum Beach Town Council tried to introduce a condition that has the union filing a bad faith bargaining complaint and the provincial mediator calling their position “incorrect.”

BURNABY – CUPE Local 3338 representing support staff at Simon Fraser University reached a tentative agreement late on Friday night, ending four long, consecutive days of bargaining.

"I'd like to thank the bargaining committee for their hard work and persistence in reaching this deal," said CUPE 3338 President Fiona Brady Lenfesty. The groups met to bargain a dozen times in 2015.

QUALICUM BEACH –   Locked out municipal workers in Qualicum Beach have voted to accept a mediator’s recommendations for a new contract. The vote was held this afternoon by members of CUPE Local 401.

The BC Labour Relations Board mediator’s recommendations were made after a meeting with the town and its union employees this week. The Qualicum Beach Town Council says it plans to discuss the recommendations at a special in-camera meeting early next week.

VANCOUVER – In a joint letter to the UBC Board of Governors chair, all three presidents from CUPE locals have raised concerns about the handling of the recent departure of UBC President, Dr. Arvind Gupta.

CUPE 116 President Colleen Garbe was a member of the 22-person selection committee that included unions, faculty, alumni, management and professional staff, students and board members from both the UBC and Okanagan campuses.  The committee did a yearlong global search and made a thoughtful, informed decision collectively.

NORTH VANCOUVER – CUPE 1004 workers at Capilano University ratified their collective agreement with the Capilano Students’ Union (CSU) on Monday.

The settlement was reached through a mediator on Saturday, averting a CSU lockout of staff who provide support services to students.

“Members can now continue to provide excellent services to students at Capilano University,” said Sarah Silvester, a bargaining committee member and CUPE 1004 executive member.

The new agreement is in effect from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2018. 

QUALICUM BEACH – Following a productive meeting with the Town Council yesterday, locked out CUPE 401 members and the Town of Qualicum Beach plan to return to the bargaining table. The parties will meet on Thursday, August 27, and will seek the assistance of a mediator from the B.C. Labour Relations Board. CUPE 401 picket lines will remain up at municipal facilities.

VANCOUVER – CUPE 1004, representing workers who provide support services to students at Capilano University, has reached a tentative agreement with the Capilano Students’ Union (CSU).

The settlement was reached through a mediator on Saturday, in time to avert a lockout by CSU that was due to start on Monday, August 24.

NORTH VANCOUVER – As a new academic year is about to begin, the Capilano Students’ Union (CSU) has chosen to disrupt services for students by locking out unionized staff beginning Monday, August 24.

The move comes after members of CUPE Local 1004, which represents CSU staff, voted unanimously to reject the employer’s final offer.

Sarah Silvester, bargaining committee member and CUPE 1004 Executive Member said that her members are concerned about their livelihood and also have concerns for what Capilano students will face as they attempt to settle into a new school year.
